Mary Miller, CPA, CVA, founded the company in August of 2000. She graduated from Columbia College with a major in accounting/business. She is an active member of The Illinois CPA Society, AICPA, and The National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
After owning her own accounting business from 1990 until May 1994, she merged with a local public accounting firm. In August 2000, she and her partner, John Verchota, formed Miller Verchota, Inc., and have continuously grown the firm. Mary is very active in the Community. She is a past president of the Rotary Club of Crystal Lake Dawnbreakers and a past treasurer of the Rotary International District 6440 Treasurer. Mary earned a Trustee Emeritus title after serving two terms as a Board Trustee of McHenry County College. She is a past treasurer and board member of the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce and is past treasurer and board member of the Crystal Lake Chamber. Mary currently serves on the Finance Committee of Resurrection Church of Woodstock. Her philosophy has been to give back to the community in which her business thrives and her family resides.
John has a Masters degree in Taxation from DePaul University and has been a CPA since 1977 (the year he graduated from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin). He has worked in local public accounting his entire career.
John has been a member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Illinois CPA Society since May of 1978. He served for eleven years as a board member of Family Services & Community Mental Health Center in McHenry, is a current member and past treasurer of the McHenry Chamber of Commerce, and served as a past president and treasurer of The Rotary Club of McHenry. John currently serves on the Executive Committee for the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.
Jeff has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Columbia College and has been a CPA since 2021. He has been in local public accounting since 2009 working with business, individual, and not-for-profit clients providing tax, attest, planning, consulting, training, software migration, and process development services.
Jeff is an active member of The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society, and has served as treasurer on the board of directors for Options & Advocacy for McHenry County since 2017.
Ryan is an experienced audit, accounting, and tax professional with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Science in Taxation from DePaul University. He has been a Certified Public Accountant since 2015 and earned his Certified Management Accountant designation in 2025. Since beginning his career in assurance services in 2012, Ryan has worked with private, public, and not-for-profit clients, providing assurance, accounting, financial reporting, and tax preparation services.
His experience includes leading audit engagements, preparing financial statements, managing month-end close processes, and developing documentation and workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy. He has worked in multiple professional environments—including regional, national, and Big Four firms—delivering high-quality service across a variety of industries.
He is an active member of The Illinois CPA Society and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Outside of work, you can find him on the golf course or at the local park flying r/c helicopters.
Kathy is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and Enrolled Agent with more than 20 years of comprehensive tax experience. She specializes in helping individuals and businesses navigate complex tax matters with clarity and confidence. Known for her thorough approach and commitment to accuracy, Kathy partners closely with clients to provide strategic planning, proactive guidance, and dependable support throughout the year.
Kathy earned her Bachelor of Arts from Lewis University and went on to complete a Master of Science in Taxation at Northern Illinois University, giving her a strong technical foundation and deep understanding of evolving tax laws. Her dedication to ongoing professional development is reflected in her active membership in both the Illinois CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
With two decades of experience and a passion for empowering clients through education and communication, Kathy brings both expertise and a personal touch to every engagement.
Outside the office, Kathy enjoys reading and spending quality time with her family.
Drew graduated from Purdue University in May of 2024 and is a hopeful CPA candidate. At present he takes on clients to audit their financial statements. In his spare time, he can be seen cheering on his alma mater in various sports and enjoying various musicians and artists.
Brittney graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with her bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in marketing in 2022. She is currently pursuing her CPA licensure. Currently, she specializes in tax preparation and financial services for clients. In her spare time, she is either reading, going to concerts, or cheering on her favorite Chicago sports teams.
Terri joined Miller Verchota in 2018 as a part-time Bookkeeper/Accountant. She earned her Bachelors degree in Accounting in 1997 from Eastern Illinois University. She has over 20 years of Accounting experience. Currently Terri specializes in corporate tax preparation and financial services and payroll taxes. Terri lives in Prairie Grove with her Husband and has two adult aged sons.
Ethan graduated from Troy University with his Bachelor's degree in Accounting in 2022. He graduated from Auburn University in 2024 with his Master's in Accounting. He is currently pursuing his CPA licensure. Currently, he takes on clients to audit their financial statements while assisting with financial services. In his spare time, he enjoys various sports and time with his wife and family.
With over 20 years of professional experience, Ashley serves as a skilled Office Administrator at Miller Verchota. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Augustana College and has seamlessly transitioned her expertise into administrative leadership. Ashley is passionate about tackling challenges and continuously expanding her skill set to enhance organizational success.
Outside of work, she finds joy in gardening and cherishes quality time with her family and pets.
Jackee first graduated in 2020 from McHenry County College with an associate’s degree in digital media, then went on to graduate with her bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Full Sail University in 2024. After 5 years working as a Sales Associate in the floral industry and building a freelance graphic design career, she has acquired many skills in customer service, design, and technology, making her a resourceful addition to Miller Verchota.
Outside of work, she maintains her multimedia freelance graphic design career through in person and online clients, traveling, spending time with friends and family, gardening, reading, and writing.
